Architect the Process

Whilst architects and contractors focus (quite rightly) on getting projects built. This is often done in a hap-hazard way, with work carried out in silos, poor communication and information stored in multiple locations and brains! ...If at all.
For designers and contractors to start working together effectively, it is important to start architecting the process, not just the building. (Is architecting a word?)
The process of information flow and the way projects get built is just as important as the end result. It is the process and workflow that creates the building, not just the architect's drawings.
Without a clear and managed process, projects are delivered in a bitter, difficult and exhausting environment. Nobody wants that!
It's time to take some cues from other knowledge-work industries and recognise that the new opportunity in construction is process.
This has to be a collaborative approach between designers, contractors and stakeholders, who at the moment seem worlds apart.
More thoughts on this soon!
